TRAINING ONLINE WITH ANITA
HOW ONLINE TRAINING WORKS
Anita provides the same quality and dedication to her online clients as she does to those clients that train with her personally. Whether you are training for general fitness or training for your first or next competition, Anita will custom-design a program that focuses on your individual needs. Anita will monitor your progress throughout each week of the online training program, and make necessary adjustments weekly. During your training, Anita will also be available to answer any questions you may have.

(Step 1) To get started, email me for an initial consultation.

(Step 2) The Evaluation
Each program is equipped with an area for personal evaluation. You will need to answer some basic questions, then take yourself through a few tests in the weight room. This allows Anita to custom-design and personalize your training program based on your level of conditioning and strength. The evaluation is simple; just follow the instructions and submit the form. Anita will take it from there. After this careful evaluation, you are ready for the weight room.

(Step 3) Weekly Updated Training Programs
At the end of each week, you must send your training program back with comments to Anita. The deadline for your questions and comments is Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). Based on your comments, Anita will make adjustments to your next weeks-training program. By 9:00 a.m. each Monday, Anita will post your personalized training program. At this time, you will be able to view and print your weekly program. If you prefer to train earlier, Anita will work with your schedule. You will continue this process weekly throughout the entire package deal that you purchase. If you should need assistance beforehand, you can send an email, and Anita will respond within 24 hours.

I competed in bodybuilding in the NPC from 1999-2001; however, I never could attain the winning physique I needed. After a 3-year layoff from competing, getting to the gym when I had time and gaining 11 pounds more than I wanted to weigh, I decided it was time to get serious. I felt my previous diet and training needed a change in order to attain my goals so I searched the Internet for a women’s bodybuilding diet and workout plan. After endless days of searching with no results, I decided to e-mail a female bodybuilder to get their opinion of my past contest preparations. I sent this “Anita” an e-mail not knowing if I would ever get a response. In a couple of days there was a response saying I can help you, are you ready to dedicate yourself. I looked Anita up on the Internet and discovered, she was everywhere and had competed for years. I was confident I was making the right decision. We had 20 weeks to get me ready and Anita had the challenge of an off-season workout with a pre-contest diet. We had a long-distance training since she was in New York, and then moved to Kansas and I was in Texas, but we made it work. At the end of 20 weeks, my physique was awesome. Even if the judges did not agree, I had already won. I looked better than I ever did in the competitions past. Anita stuck with me every step of the way.

A year later, I decided to compete again. Anita is now in Canada, and we would not be able to talk on the phone as much, we just had to depend more on e-mail. Anita not only had to do the normal pre-contest diet and workout, she also had to gear my workouts to help rehabilitate my injured shoulder. We had 19 weeks this time, and Anita’s goal was to get me lean. My cardio was increased, my carbohydrates were decreased and I was eating so much chicken I thought I would grow feathers. It all paid off because I took first place and overall. I came in leaner and with more muscle.

After working with Anita for two competitions, she is not only my trainer, but I consider her a dear friend. Anita has a very caring personality and is an amazing person. She has such a vast knowledge of fitness, weight training and competing that she could help anyone start a fitness regime regardless of their goals. Anita makes fitness easy as far as what to eat and what to do in the gym. She writes it all down, and all you have to do is follow the plan exactly how it is written. The workouts are very challenging. When I finish a workout, I just want to crawl out of weight room and into a warm bath. Anita has kept me challenging myself. I never thought I would be using 75lb dumbbells for dumbbell rows for 12 repetitions, but I can. I've looked at the testimonials on Anita Ramsey's website and feel compelled to add mine. Why? Well, I look at things from a different perspective from the others -- the perspective of a 63 year old woman!

Anita became my personal trainer 5 weeks ago. We work together 3x/wk for 1 and 1/2 hours a session in the old weight room in the gym. I also do cardio, abs and rotator cuff work at other times, but under her guidance.

My "training" was zero before I started with Anita. I don't mean I had never done and enjoyed physical activity before -- I have. But in recent years arthritis, spinal scoliosis, and most recently a rotator cuff injury (the direct result of last year's 6 months of hatha yoga classes --and daily yoga workouts-- without adequate one-on-one supervision) have enormously complicated things for me.

It seemed that no matter what type of fitness program I started -- aqua-aerobics, yoga and Pilates to name the three most recent -- because I didn't have an adequate understanding of what was going on with my body while I did them, I would sooner or later injure something, or aggravate one of my physical issues, and have to stop.

For the past 2 years I had inquired all over the Sackville/Amherst area for a good personal trainer and until Anita came on the scene there was no one at all. Every year I would pay the fees at the Fitness Loft, or the Mt. A. gym, or the YWCA in Amherst, and some well-meaning young person would "show me how to use the machines" and that was it. I was given no comprehensive, ongoing education about which muscle or muscle group each machine or free weight setup was intended to work, whether my form was right, what weights to begin with, how many reps to do, and how to increase reps and weights safely. I didn't know how long to wait between sets, what order to do the exercises in, how to work around the physical problems I have, or if it was possible to work in such a way that my physical problems would eventually not give me so much pain.

Perhaps most important of all, I didn't know how to train without aggravating my thumb and wrist joints which are arthritic. Because I am a professional concert pianist this is a vitally important issue for me. When I play the piano, these joints give me almost no pain (one of the oddities about arthritis in these particular joints of many pianists including jazz pianist Oscar Peterson!) But when I did aqua-aerobics classes at the Mt. A. pool a few years ago, for example, I had to stop after a few months because simply pushing through water put too much pressure on these joints, and the resulting pain kept me from the piano at times.

I was extremely wary of starting work with Anita because at my age I know I have only so many good years ahead in which to perform and I am protective of those years! Yet I knew that I needed one-on-one supervision and instruction in weight training in order to regain lost muscle strength, and I also needed to increase my endurance and flexibility. So I thought I would give it one year -- to do things gradually...and start training with Anita.

My life is changed. She is focused and concentrated in our work together in a way that is rare in this day and age. I am focused and concentrated in this same ways in my work at the piano. In many ways, getting ready to play solo piano recitals is a lot like doing weight work. It is very physical work and uses the entire body all the time, calling on it for power, speed and flexibility. I recognized right away from our first session together that Anita brings to her work a high level of sustained interest and concentration similar to mine. She is professional.

Anita is dedicated to her work and perhaps more importantly, to the improvement of the physical fitness and health of the people she works with. She begins with you where you are. That is the same way I work with my students of piano (I am a Professor Emeritus in Music at Mount Allison University and still do some private teaching). It seems so obvious, but it is amazing how few coaches really follow this in their own teaching. You must take the student where they are, no matter how undeveloped they are, and you go from there.

You explain what is happening. But at the same time, you don't overwhelm the student with long wordy explanations -- you have the student work, and you pay attention to them, and you know just what to say and when to say it. Anita watches me like a hawk all the time. She sort of "becomes" me, feeling where I am psychologically and physically at all times, and knows when I can push forward to a new level, and when I need the boost that can come from increasing reps or weight.

I could go on and on, but I won't! The most exciting and encouraging thing for me so far is that with her coaching I am learning how to pay attention to what is going on during our sessions; to give my coach clear, intelligent feedback; to advance with the necessary "good muscle tiredness" that goes along with proper training; and to do things without injury that I never thought would be possible for me.

The other day, for the first time in my life, I felt a lightness and power at the piano that I have never felt before. It was mind-blowing. Imagine what I might be like a year from now!!

I am now in my second month of training and I feel great. My sister warned me before I started: "Don't get carried away!" I know she meant: "Don't overdo! Be sensible! Act your age! Watch out!" But what I know, and what she doesn't know, is that without Anita's intelligent, balanced, inspirational coaching my chances of getting "carried away" were getting greater by the day, and by that, I mean literally "carried away in the ol' pine casket" much sooner than I should be, due to poor physical fitness and the resulting bad health!

My weight loss story, where to start! It starts off the same as everyone else, I did this and tried that, blah blah, you know the story. Anyways, my friend started working out with Anita, and suggested I give it a try. Just the thoughts of going into a gym turned me off. My friend persisted in asking me (thankfully) and finally after seeing how well she was doing I decided to meet with Anita!

Right away I felt comfortable and believed Anita understood my feelings of my insecurities of going to the gym. The first couple of times at the gym I felt a little uneasy, but with Anita’s assurance it wasn’t long before those feelings faded. I now get up at 5:30am four times a week to work out at the gym, which is amazing considering I am not a morning person, but when I am finished my work out I feel such an accomplishment, and my energy level for the day is there. I enjoy the compliments I receive from friends and family and love the way my clothes are fitting. I feel better about myself and I have so much more energy.

The personal service that Anita provides goes beyond a personal trainer, not only is she helping you achieve your physical goals, but she makes you believe they’re obtainable. Her constant coaching and praising pushes you to do that one more rep (or five more in Anita’s counting, ha ha). I have learned something new every day with Anita, she is constantly teaching and explaining why we are doing certain exercises and the benefits. She believes not in dieting, but making healthy choices for a life long change.

She has encouraged me to keep a journal of my progress, writing down my workouts, my food choices, etc. I enjoy looking back at the beginning of my journey and take pride in my accomplishments today. I would describe myself as a 41 year old mother of two. I have never participated in any kind of sports. I have tried aerobics over the years but never stuck with anything for very long. I have never had a positive body image. Over the past 7 years I have gained about 30 pounds. I really have never been a ‘good’ eater. I’ll eat well (nutritionally wise) but then go back to my old eating and snacking habits. Sweets are a huge addiction.

And then along came Anita…..its been 6 weeks since we started training. And in those 6 weeks, I have learned more about my body and my mind, than I have in my entire life. Anita’s vast knowledge and expertise in weight training has taught me how to use weights properly and safely. Her guidance in my diet has helped me to understand what I’m eating and why I’m eating it.


Her enthusiasm and amazing support has pushed me to do things I never thought I could do. Her belief in me and her constant encouragement is helping me to believe in myself. Talk about power! Bench pressing so many pounds is nothing to what I can do with my mind. On top of everything she has taught me, I think the most important thing is the power of the mind; the mental strength that I actually possess, right here, right now. Anita tells me that I can do it, I believe her and guess what? I can! It is an amazing feeling.

And this not a 6 week little fix-up job, this is a lifestyle change. I cannot wait for the next 6 weeks, and the next and the next. It is very hard work yes. But man oh man, is it satisfying. After all these years I’m finally ‘getting it’. And it is thanks to Anita. The group of us who have been training together call ourselves, “Anita’s Angel’s”! I consider myself very lucky to have found Anita. She has really changed my life.
